Biography

Angie Lamb serves as an Associate Director in Academic Support & Retention and has been a part of the team since 2018. She began working at The University of Iowa in 2000 and joined University College in 2010 before transitioning to her current role in Academic Support & Retention in 2018. Angie’s professional interests concentrate on systemic- and institution-level education policies and their impact on student success, especially within populations of students who have historically been marginalized and underserved across the education sector, most notably focusing on first-generation college students. In addition to her role in Academic Support & Retention, Angie partners with TRIO Student Support Services and TRIO Upward Bound to teach courses in college transition and academic skill building. She is also currently serving on multiple state-wide committees that have been charged with reviewing high school to college math pathways, recommending strategies that address disparities and issues of preparedness among Iowa’s high school graduates. Angie earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2005 and a Masters in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies in 2018, both from The University of Iowa. 

 

Her responsibilities within Academic Support & Retention include: 

  • Chair the UI First-Generation Task Force and support the mission of the task force to increase awareness of the first-generation identity across campus and asses the role that faculty and staff have in first-generation students’ success. 
  • Provide leadership of the 1stGen@Iowa initiative (an initiative developed by the First-Gen Task Force) which seeks to inform and educate the campus community, support first-generation students in their academic and career endeavors, and ensure that students ultimately succeed at The University of Iowa. Oversee 1stGen@Iowa celebration activities such as the National First-Generation College Celebration week, the 1stGen@Iowa Awards, graduation, and other first-gen related celebrations. 
  • Lead the First-Gen Forward executive leadership team and 1stGen@Iowa Implementation team, which have been tasked with developing and implementing the UI’s First-Gen Forward Goal Plan. Focus on efforts to build and provide trainings and increase awareness among faculty and staff of their role in supporting first-generation college students and work to transition The University of Iowa into an institution that is student-ready. 

  • Partner with the Office of the Provost and University College leadership to oversee First-Year Seminars and instructor professional development. 

  • Serve as the University of Iowa’s liaison on the GEAR UP Iowa Advisory Board and manage institutional efforts to support students and conduct data analysis and assessment work within GEAR UP 2.0 and 3.0 cohorts. Partner with Iowa College Aid GEAR UP staff, local school districts, and other institutions to develop and implement relevant programming for students and their families as well as district staff. 

  • Serve in other capacities that focus on college readiness and bridge programming; work on initiatives that aim to address issues in diversity, equity, and inclusion; and build relationships, bridge gaps, and facilitate work that connects the K-12 and post-secondary education systems.
