Biography

Angie Lamb serves as an Associate Director in Academic Support & Retention and has been a part of the team since 2018. She began working at the University of Iowa in 2001 and joined the University College in 2010 before transitioning to her current role specifically in Academic Support & Retention. Angie’s professional interests focus on educational policy and student success, with a significant emphasis on supporting first-generation college students. In addition to her role in Academic Support & Retention, Angie partners with TRIO Student Support Services and TRIO Upward Bound to teach courses in college transition and academic skill building. Angie earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2005 and a Masters in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies in 2018, both from the University of Iowa.  

Angie collaborates with multiple campus partners and external entities across the state of Iowa to foster the success of all students as they navigate secondary and post-secondary education. In her work, Angie supports the office's mission through a variety of projects in three main areas: First-Year Seminars, first-generation student success, and college readiness. She leads the campus-wide 1stGen@Iowa initiative and the university’s FirstGen Forward designation and goal plan, coordinates the institution’s annual participation in the National First-Generation College Celebration and oversees distribution of first-gen grad cord distribution and other first-gen materials and celebrations, serves as the University of Iowa’s liaison to the state of Iowa’s Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Advisory Council and is the university’s GEAR UP coordinator, partners with the Office of the Provost and University College leadership to oversee First-Year Seminars and instructor professional development, and facilitates efforts to connect Iowa’s K-12 and post-secondary education systems, working together to prepare Iowa’s students for post-secondary academic and professional success.
