The Tutor Certification Program provides professional development workshops and recognition for campus tutors. Workshops cover a variety of topics and change each semester.

Who can attend these professional development opportunities?

Students who tutor through University of Iowa Programs (e.g. Math Tutorial Lab, Tutor Iowa, etc.) are eligible to participate in Tutor Certification Program initiatives. If you are a student who is not associated with a specific University of Iowa tutor center/program and are interested in participating, or are a faculty/staff member who is interested in having students participate, please contact Katie Aranda at katie-aranda@uiowa.edu.

How to become certified through the Tutor Certification Program?

Individuals who complete the below components receive a certificate for their dedication to professional development and supporting student success through their tutoring services. Additionally, private tutors receive a star insignia next to their name in Tutor Iowa to indicate certification:

  1. Attend a New Tutor Training Day foundational training
  2. Attend four Tutor Certification Program workshops
  3. Tutor for two semesters
