MATH FOR THE BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES (MATH:1440)
One of the following must be met:
Received a B or higher in MATH:1440 Math for the Biological Sciences (if currently completing the course, the LA offer will be contingent on receiving a B or higher) OR
Received a B or higher in MATH:1460 Calculus for the Biological Sciences (if currently completing the course, the LA offer will be contingent on receiving a B or higher) OR
Be a student in the UI Math Education Program:
In at least their second year of the program AND
Received a B or higher in math courses below 3000 level
UI Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
Attend pre-semester Learning Assistant Training on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 (in-person)
Attend your assigned lectures to facilitate activities (three, 50-minute lectures per week). Lectures are currently planned to occur in-person:
Lectures will occur MWF 2:30–3:20 PM
Attend a once-a-week, in-person, 50-minute prep meeting with faculty:
Meetings occur Mondays 1:30–2:20 PM
Attend a once-a-week, 75-minute pedagogy course covering topics such as metacognition, effective study strategies, and creating inclusive learning environments (see the “LA Pedagogy Course” webpage for more information.) Pedagogy course day/time options include:
Tuesdays 11:00 AM–12:15 PM
Wednesdays 3:30–4:45 PM
Thursdays 2:00–3:15 PM
Learning Assistants should anticipate spending 4 -6 hours a week in this role
