Why be a Returning Learning Assistant?

  • Continue to develop your facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Provide insight and support to first semester LAs 
  • Receive an $800 semester stipend
  • For applicants who are honors students, serving as a Returning Learning Assistant is an experience for which you are eligible to earn up to two (2) honors experiential learning credits. 
    • More information about the Honors experiential learning credit process can be found here: https://honors.uiowa.edu/experientiallearning. After landing on this page, scroll down to the "Teaching Assistantship/Learning Assistantship" tab.
    • Questions regarding Honors experiential learning credit should be directed to the Honors at Iowa Program at honors-explearning@uiowa.edu.

Returner Opportunities

  • Facilitate in assigned course each week
  • Attend a once-a-week, 50-minute prep meeting with assigned faculty
  • Attend a monthly, 30-minute one-on-one with Academic Support & Retention
  • Assist with recruitment activities
  • Time commitment of 4-6 hours per week
